WHEN SHOULD YOU INVOLVE PLANNING CONSULTANT?

Seeking the advice of a qualified planning professional is more likely to smooth your path, and achieve the outcomes you want.

Getting the input of a qualified planning consultant who supports your position will invariably enhance your chances of achieving the outcomes you want, whether it’s in respect of a regional or district plan, long term council community plan (LTCCP), a resource consent or specialist expertise.

Professional planning advice is definitely recommended when:

  • Making a submission/further submission:

    • Proposed changes to a regional or district plan
    • Inputting into a long term council community plan

  • Preparing a resource consent application:

    • Background research and scoping of proposal for consent issues
    • Assessing the effects of your proposal on the environment
    • Getting the right technical input
    • Consulting with potentially affected parties and Tangata Whenua to ensure issues are dealt with before an application is lodged
    • Providing evidence to support your case at the Environment Court

  • Opposing a development proposal:

    • Making a Council Submission
    • Providing evidence in respect of a Council decision at the Environment Court
    • Dealing with specific issues like site selection, designations and zoning
